The Cherokee Nation Surgical Technology Program recently graduated four students during a ceremony at the Cherokee Nation Outpatient Health Center. The program, accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, aims to fill surgical technologist positions within the Cherokee Nation’s health care system with well-trained Cherokee professionals. The graduates, including valedictorian Hannah Parris, are now certified to work as surgical technologists, responsible for handling sterile supplies and assisting surgeons during procedures.
Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. and Deputy Chief Bryan Warner praised the graduates for their commitment to health care excellence and dedication to serving the Cherokee community. The program has graduated a total of 37 students since the 2019-2020 academic year, all of whom have passed the Nation Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting CST Certification Exam. The graduates expressed their gratitude for the program, acknowledging the challenges they faced and the growth they experienced both as professionals and individuals.
