The Regional School Unit 9 board of directors met on November 12th to discuss updates on technology integration in classrooms. Director Kevin Bremner highlighted the district’s participation in the ACTEM fall conference, where teachers and administrators learned about artificial intelligence and project-based learning. The deployment of iPads to middle and high school students was also discussed, with teachers guiding students through device setup and use of Managed Apple IDs for seamless management. Challenges such as battery life and keyboard size were noted, but Bremner emphasized the importance of providing students with access to diverse technologies. The district has provided styluses for middle school classrooms and high school students, with a commitment to addressing challenges and providing educational opportunities for staff and students. Despite concerns about whether iPads adequately prepare students for the real world, Bremner believes that technology is constantly evolving and students should be exposed to various tools. The next RSU 9 board meeting is scheduled for December 10th.
