Northeastern Thanksgiving Day Storm Brings Rain and Snow, Causing Travel Delays

A Thanksgiving Day storm has created travel woes for thousands still on their journeys, as snow and rain blanket the East Coast. Winter storm warnings are in effect for much of the interior Northeast, with over a foot of snow possible in some areas. Power outages have been reported in Maine. Travel disruptions were also seen in airports, with delays in Denver and Newark, partially due to a shortage of air traffic controllers. Despite the challenges, a record number of people are expected to travel by car for the holiday. In addition to the storm, lake effect snow alerts are in effect for areas around lakes Ontario and Erie. Frigid temperatures are also on the way, with Siberian air bringing the coldest temperatures of the season across the country. Daytime highs will be well below average in many areas, with overnight lows dropping below freezing as far south as the Gulf Coast. The weekend is expected to be particularly challenging for travelers, as millions are expected to pass through TSA checkpoints on Sunday alone. Travelers should be prepared for difficult conditions both on the roads and in the air as they head back home after the holiday.
