James Craig, a Colorado dentist accused of fatally poisoning his wife’s protein shakes, is facing new charges for allegedly trying to kill a detective involved in the case. Craig, who pleaded not guilty to the first-degree murder charge in his wife’s death, is now facing a solicitation to commit first-degree murder charge as well as solicitation to commit perjury. He allegedly sought to have an inmate kill the detective while they were both in jail together. The detective had worked on the investigation into Angela Craig’s death, which was initially believed to be poisoning by arsenic and cyanide, but later determined to be a combination of cyanide and tetrahydrozoline.
Authorities have pointed to James Craig’s internet search history and online purchases of potassium cyanide before his wife’s death as evidence against him. His business partner became suspicious when he learned of the purchase and alerted authorities, leading to the investigation. Craig’s defense lawyer withdrew from the case just before the new charges were filed, citing professional conflict. Jury selection for his trial has been postponed indefinitely. Despite the evidence against him, Craig has maintained his innocence and claimed his wife asked him to order the cyanide. The case continues to unfold as authorities work to bring justice for Angela Craig’s death.
