The Indiana Fever are drawing attention in the sports world with the addition of rookie standout Caitlin Clark, and the Indiana Sports Corp believes that women’s sports can have a lasting economic impact on Indianapolis. The Vision 2050 plan aims to make Indianapolis the “women’s sports capital of the world” by the year 2050, highlighting the city’s long-standing support for women’s sports.
The Fever recently broke the WNBA’s single-season attendance record, with two home games left in the regular season. Gainbridge Fieldhouse will also host the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game. In addition, a new women’s professional sports team, the Indy Ignite, is set to join the Pro Volleyball Federation in the 2025 season and will play at the Fishers Event Center.
Sarah Myer of the Indiana Sports Corp emphasized the importance of continuously pushing for city and state leaders to embrace and attract women’s sports events in the future. While the Sports Corp has had discussions with other professional sports leagues, specific details were not disclosed. Myer highlighted the role of sports in showcasing the city and state to a wider audience and expressed interest in exploring further opportunities to support women’s sports on a statewide level.
