Amanda Don Soultz, a 32-year-old woman from Elkhart, Indiana, has been convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Michelle Smith, 41, in Fayette County. Soultz pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree murder in relation to the incident, which took place in February 2023. Along with co-defendant Andres Torres, Jr., Soultz traveled to Fayette County in late January 2023, with Torres pawning a watch to Smith for $50. When Smith refused to return the watch to Torres, he and Soultz went to Smith’s home, where she was kidnapped, robbed, and ultimately murdered by Torres with a firearm. Smith’s body was found 12 hours later, and she passed away on March 31, 2023. Torres was convicted in October 2024 of Murder in the First Degree, Kidnapping, Robbery, and Conspiracy, and is set to be sentenced on January 30. Soultz, who claimed to have participated in the murder out of fear of Torres, will be sentenced on February 11. The brutal incident shocked the residents of Fayette County, leaving many to seek justice for the tragic loss of Michelle Smith.
