Israel violates ceasefire deal once more by attacking Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley | Latest news from Israel-Lebanon border

Israel has launched a series of attacks on Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, killing at least 83 people in the past two months. The Israeli army targeted Hezbollah sites near the border with Syria, claiming to hit underground infrastructure used for weapon development and smuggling locations. Israel was supposed to withdraw its troops from Lebanon by January 26 as part of a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, but it refused to do so and extended the deadline to February 18.

Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health reported that at least 83 people were killed by Israeli forces in the two months from November 27 to Monday. Displaced residents trying to return home were also injured as Israeli soldiers remained stationed in their villages. Recent violations of the ceasefire agreement include attacks on towns and villages on the Lebanon-Israel border, with casualties reported in southern Lebanon.

Israeli forces have killed a total of at least 3,961 people and injured over 16,520 in Lebanon since the conflict began on October 8, 2023. This week, Lebanese media reported drone attacks injuring at least five people in a southern town. The escalation of violence comes as tensions between Israel and Hezbollah continue to rise, with Israel citing the Lebanese army’s failure to fulfill its obligations under the ceasefire agreement. The situation remains volatile as both sides remain at odds over the terms of the truce.
