Russia launched a devastating attack on Ukraine on Saturday, launching drones and missiles that killed 11 people and caused extensive damage to residential buildings and energy infrastructure across the country. In a particularly deadly strike, a Russian missile hit a residential building in Poltava, killing seven people and injuring 14, including children. The city of Kharkiv also suffered casualties in a drone attack, with one person killed and four wounded. Three police officers were also killed in an attack in the northeastern region of Sumy.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy condemned the attacks, stating that more support is needed to defend against Russian aggression. The Ukrainian air force reported that Russian forces launched 123 drones and over 40 missiles, with many drones intercepted but no figures given for intercepted missiles. Infrastructure in cities such as Poltava, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Sumy, and Khmelnytskyi were targeted, with gas infrastructure and other facilities damaged.
