Senate Bill Criminalizing Spinning Passed by Indiana Senate – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic

State senators in Indiana have passed a bill criminalizing spinning, also known as burnouts, in a 48 to 1 vote. The bill, aimed at curbing dangerous and disruptive behavior, will now go to the House floor for further consideration.

I-Team 8 has been highlighting the dangers of spinning for years, with competitions shutting down streets, intersections, and parking lots. Sen. Jim Tomes, R-Wadesville, emphasized the need for action, citing the risks involved in spinning, including the potential for accidents and tie-ups at intersections.

If the bill becomes law, spinning will be classified as a high-level misdemeanor in Indiana, with potential jail time and fines for offenders. Vehicles could also be confiscated, and drivers may face felony charges if their actions endanger others. IMPD has also condemned spinning, burnouts, and donuts, warning that such behavior puts the community at risk and that offenders could have their cars seized.

While the bill originally focused on intersections, other senators are pushing for it to apply to public places and parking lots as well. The goal is to protect public safety and discourage reckless driving behavior.
