High school students in Indiana have the chance to showcase their entrepreneurial and innovative skills through the Innovate WithIN competition. This initiative teaches students how to identify problems and turn them into opportunities, pitch their ideas, and compete for prize money and scholarships. Tina Marlie, a teacher at Speedway High School, emphasized the program’s benefits, including networking opportunities with industry leaders and major companies that students may not otherwise have.
Innovate WithIN offers millions of dollars in scholarships for students planning to attend Indiana colleges and universities. State finalists have the opportunity to win up to $25,000 in funding to grow their businesses. This year, finalists will have the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C., to meet with industry leaders, government officials, and successful entrepreneurs.
Teachers like Sarah Ackerman have seen students grow and gain confidence through the program since 2016. The STARTed Up Foundation’s Innovate WithIN has had over 9,154 student participants since its inception in 2018, with more than $650,000 in awards distributed. The deadline to submit a pitch for the competition is Feb. 21, providing students with a chance to showcase their ideas and potentially win funding to turn them into reality.
