Geoffrey Carter, a South Bend pastor, has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including child exploitation and possession of child pornography. The allegations stem from incidents involving a 17-year-old victim who claimed to have been sexually assaulted by Carter in his Mishawaka home. The victim discovered evidence on Carter’s phone, including hidden pictures and videos. A search of Carter’s home uncovered more incriminating evidence, such as a hidden camera. Carter admitted to recording the victim and himself masturbating on video.
Carter, who was also a director of the Children’s Choir of Michiana and a recruitment coordinator at Notre Dame, has been dismissed from both positions. The South Bend Community School Corporation, where Carter previously worked, stated that he had resigned but continued to volunteer with choir groups.
Carter appeared in court and his bond was set at $15,000 cash. He is currently in custody awaiting a hearing on December 2. The University of Notre Dame and the Children’s Choir of Michiana have stated that they are offering support to families potentially affected by the allegations.
These allegations against Carter are serious, and he is considered innocent until proven guilty.
