At least 18 people were killed and 23 injured in eastern Thailand after a tour bus rolled upside down into a ditch when its brakes failed. The victims were adults on a study trip, and there were a total of 49 people on board, all Thai nationals. The incident occurred on a downhill road in Prachinburi province, 96 miles east of Bangkok. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra expressed condolences to the families of the victims and stated that an investigation was underway. She emphasized the importance of ensuring vehicles meet safety standards to prevent similar accidents in the future. Thailand has a high rate of road accidents and fatalities due to weak enforcement of safety standards and poorly maintained roads. The country ranked ninth in the world for road traffic deaths among World Health Organization member countries. In a similar incident last year, a school bus caught fire due to a gas cylinder leak, resulting in the deaths of 23 people, including 16 students.
