A man from Brooklyn, New York, was arrested in La Porte, Indiana, after leading police on a high-speed chase along the Indiana Toll Road. The incident began when a deputy pulled over a Jeep SUV for following a commercial vehicle too closely. Rather than pulling over, the driver accelerated and attempted to flee from the deputy. During the chase, one of the passengers in the SUV threw a baggie out the window. The chase continued for eight miles before the Jeep successfully evaded tire deflation devices. The driver then did a U-turn at a toll barrier and headed eastbound down the Toll Road before crashing on US 421. The driver fled on foot but was eventually apprehended. Two passengers in the vehicle were injured in the crash and taken to the hospital. The driver, Kleve Panayoty, was also transported to the hospital for evaluation before being booked into the La Porte County Jail. Panayoty faces charges and has a bond set at $755.
