A fire broke out at a home in the 4100 block of East Washington Street in Indianapolis early Friday morning, leading to a quick response from the Indianapolis Fire Department. The house, located in the Tuxedo Park neighborhood, had heavy smoke coming from the second story as firefighters arrived on the scene around 6:15 a.m. Firefighters were able to enter through second-floor windows to battle the blaze, with parts of the roof collapsing during the fire.
Despite the intensity of the fire, crews were able to rescue a cat from the home, which was then handed over to animal care services. It is unclear if any other animals or humans were inside the home at the time of the fire. The condition of the cat is unknown, but hopefully, it will soon be reunited with its family.
News 8 photographer Zach George captured the scene, showing the dramatic efforts of the firefighters to contain the fire and rescue the cat. Residents in the area are grateful for the quick response of the firefighters and are relieved that the cat was saved from the blaze.
