Indianapolis Woman Faces Charges in Hit-and-Run Death of 66-Year-Old Man – Latest Updates on Indianapolis News, Indiana Weather, and Traffic

Melissa Borrayo, a 32-year-old Indianapolis woman, is facing a felony charge of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in a pedestrian’s death in November. The victim, James Lee Poole, 66, died at a hospital after being hit by a black Chevrolet Captiva SUV driven by Borrayo at the intersection of Lafayette Road and West Kessler Boulevard North Drive. The incident occurred on the near northwest side of Indianapolis in a business and residential area. IMPD Detective Tim Abrams led the investigation, utilizing video footage and automatic license plate readers to track down the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. The SUV was found with front-end and windshield damage consistent with a pedestrian collision at an auto repair service. It was later discovered that Borrayo had purchased the vehicle from Arnaldo Matheus Nava and claimed to have abandoned it due to mechanical issues before the crash occurred. However, cellular data placed her phone near the crash site shortly after the incident. The case highlights the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions in hit-and-run incidents, especially when they result in tragic consequences such as the death of James Lee Poole.
