Prosecutor determines deputy acted within legal bounds in fatal Clinton County shooting

A shooting incident occurred during a traffic stop on State Road 14 near the Pulaski County line in Clinton County, Indiana. Bodycam footage revealed that a sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a suspect, Matthew Huttle, after he threatened to shoot himself during the arrest attempt. Prosecutors reviewed the investigation and deemed the deputy’s actions justified. Huttle, who was believed to be speeding, was approached by the deputy for a habitual traffic violator charge. When he ran back to his van and appeared to reach for something, the deputy fired multiple shots, leading to his death. A loaded handgun and extra ammunition were later found in the van. It was revealed that Huttle had been pardoned by President Donald Trump just days prior to the incident for a misdemeanor related to the January 6, 2021 riot on Capitol Hill. The case is now closed, with the independent review concluding that the deputy’s use of force was warranted.
