The Elder Pride Indy Collaborative (EPIC) in central Indiana, led by the Damien Center, has launched a needs assessment to address the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ seniors in accessing healthcare, housing, and social support. The initiative aims to give seniors a voice and ensure they receive the resources they need. Discrimination, isolation, and limited access to culturally competent care are some of the issues faced by aging LGBTQ+ individuals. The survey will collect responses for the next month to identify the needs of the community. Some concerns include finding suitable housing and inclusive medical care. EPIC plans to use the data to improve support systems and ensure aging LGBTQ+ individuals do not face these challenges alone. The results of the survey are expected to be released by May. The initiative hopes to drive the development of new services and programs based on the community’s feedback. Alan Witchey, president and CEO of the Damien Center, emphasizes the importance of addressing LGBTQ+ issues in healthcare and creating a safe and comfortable environment for aging LGBTQ+ Hoosiers.
