Indiana State emerges victorious to secure program’s inaugural Missouri Valley Conference Swimming and Diving Championship


Indiana State swimming and diving made history by claiming their first Missouri Valley Conference Championship title in program history over the weekend. The Sycamores held off challenges from Southern Illinois and Missouri State to secure the title with a total of 1440.5 points. They utilized standout performances from athletes like Claire Parsons, Jecza Lopez, and the 400-yard Freestyle Relay to pull away from the competition.

Overall, Indiana State won six event championships, with Parsons and Lopez both winning multiple events. Head Coach Josh Christensen was named MVC Swimming Coach of the Year, while Diving Coach Teresa Hall was named co-Diving Coach of the Year.

The final day of competition was highlighted by multiple Sycamores qualifying for the A-Finals in various events, including the 200-yard Breaststroke and the 200-yard Fly. Jecza Lopez also claimed the MVC Diver of the Year award with her performance in the 3M Springboard event.

After their historic win at the MVC Championships, the Indiana State swimming team will now head to the CSCAA NIC Meet in Florida, while Jecza Lopez will compete in the NCAA Diving Zone C in Ohio.
