Lee Kunzman, a four-time Indianapolis 500 starter, has passed away at the age of 80, as announced by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Kunzman raced in the iconic event in 1972, 1973, 1977, and 1979, achieving a best finish of seventh in 1973 and 1977. He also had a career-best finish of second at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1979.

Although he never won an IndyCar Series race, Kunzman found success in United States Auto Club competition, earning 30 career USAC national feature victories. After retiring from racing, he served as team manager for Hemelgarn Racing, leading them to victory at the Indy 500 in 1996 and the IndyCar Series Championship in 2000 with driver Buddy Lazier.

Kunzman’s legacy is further highlighted by his induction into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 2006. His contributions to the world of motorsports are remembered and celebrated by fans and colleagues alike.
