An off-duty firefighter in Knightstown, Indiana called 911 to report a fire at a business on the southside of town on March 3. The Knightstown Fire Department quickly responded to the scene at 35 W. Grant St. where 30 firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, which were engulfing the building. Despite significant smoke and heat damage to the front and back of the structure, no injuries were reported. The firefighters were able to contain the fire within an hour thanks to a prompt 911 call, aggressive firefighting tactics, and positive mutual aid assistance. KFD Public Information Officer Kaleb Buchanan credited these factors for preventing the fire from escalating further. The off-duty firefighter from the Indianapolis Fire Department who made the emergency call helped ensure that the situation was quickly addressed and brought under control. The cause of the fire and extent of the damage are still under investigation, but the quick response and teamwork of the firefighters prevented a potentially more dangerous situation from occurring.
