The 22-year-old was so distraught that she considered not being able to finish the match, as she struggled to see the ball through tears and could barely breathe. After spotting the man fixated on her in the stands, Raducanu broke down in tears and had to take a breather before eventually losing the match. The man had been present at her previous matches in Singapore, Abu Dhabi, and Doha, and had approached her off the court in Dubai as well. Despite the troubling encounter, Raducanu decided not to press charges against the man, who has since been banned from WTA tournaments. The incident in Dubai was not her first troubling encounter with a fan, as she had previously dealt with stalking at her home. Despite the challenges, Raducanu will be returning to play at Indian Wells, with enhanced security, after taking a week off to regroup. She expressed gratitude for the support from fans and stated that she feels better and is looking forward to competing again. Raducanu, who won the 2021 U.S. Open at the age of 18, is currently ranked 55th in the world and will face Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima in the first round of Indian Wells.
