Xavier Worthy, a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, was released after a Texas district attorney declined to pursue charges of felony domestic violence against him. The district attorney stated that after speaking with witnesses, they were not accepting the case at this time. Worthy, who played college football at the University of Texas, was initially charged with assault on a family member, but the case was later dismissed/declined.
Worthy’s lawyers stated that their client is innocent and that the allegations were made by a female living in his home, who had been asked to leave due to infidelity. The lawyers claimed that the woman made a baseless allegation against Worthy and had caused damage to his property. Worthy did not want to press charges against her.
The Chiefs, Worthy’s team, stated that they were aware of the situation and gathering information. Worthy was drafted by the Chiefs last year and had a successful rookie season, becoming a key player for the team. He had a standout performance in the Super Bowl.
In contrast, Worthy’s teammate Rashee Rice is facing legal challenges following a high-speed car crash in which he admitted to driving the Lamborghini involved. Rice is currently dealing with civil lawsuits and criminal charges related to the incident.
