An Indiana woman who had been missing for nearly a week was miraculously found alive after a passerby spotted her trapped inside a vehicle. The 41-year-old woman, Brieonna Cassell, had been reported missing earlier in the month.
On Tuesday morning, a Good Samaritan named Johnny Martinez spotted Cassell’s vehicle off the roadway while working near CR 600S CR 300E. He immediately contacted his supervisor, Jeremy Vanderwall, who is also the fire chief for the Morocco Fire Department.
Martinez and Vanderwall found Cassell inside the vehicle, where she had been trapped for six days, suffering serious injuries but miraculously alive. Cassell was conscious and able to tell her rescuers what had happened before being airlifted to a Chicago hospital for treatment.
Newton County officials praised Martinez and Vanderwall for their quick actions that led to Cassell’s rescue. Further information on Cassell’s condition was not yet available at the time of the report, but the community is relieved that she was found alive and is receiving medical attention.
