New Indianapolis VA hospital construction delayed due to inclusion of three Indiana federal buildings on disposal list – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic

The U.S. General Services Administration recently posted three federal government buildings in Indiana, including two in Indianapolis and one in New Albany, for “disposal.” The list was later removed from the GSA website, with a new list expected to be released soon. The purpose of selling these properties is to eliminate costly maintenance and reinvest in high-quality work environments that support agency missions. In addition, a contract for a new Veterans Administration medical facility in Indianapolis has been canceled by the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency.

Rep. André Carson, D-Indiana, expressed concern over the termination of the contract, stating that a new facility is necessary to provide essential healthcare to veterans in the area. The largest building on the GSA list, the Major General Emmett J. Bean Federal Center, houses the Defense Finance and Accounting Service and features an extensive solar system. The Minton-Capehart Federal Building in downtown Indianapolis, home to various federal agencies, was also included on the list.

Carson criticized the DOGE for deeming these buildings as functionally obsolete, stating that they are suitable for the federal workforce. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that these facilities are in the best condition to fulfill their respective agency missions. The third building on the list, the Lee H. Hamilton Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in New Albany, serves as a branch of the U.S. District Court for southern Indiana. Carson and his colleagues are working to reverse these decisions to ensure that veterans and seniors receive the care and services they deserve.
