U.S. Rep. André Carson warns against cutting federal workforce in Indianapolis

U.S. Rep. André Carson (D-Indianapolis) spoke out on Friday against proposed cuts to the federal workforce, stating that the move would result in significant losses of services with minimal savings. Carson raised concerns after the Minton-Capehart Federal Building and the Major General Emmett J. Bean Center in his district were briefly listed for possible disposal by the General Services Administration earlier this week.

The Minton-Capehart building houses offices for various agencies, including the Social Security Administration, IRS, VA, and immigration courts. The Bean Center is home to the Defense Finance Accounting Service, which processes paychecks for the Armed Forces. Carson criticized the lack of transparency from the GSA and the Department of Government Efficiency regarding their plans for the listed buildings.

Carson emphasized the importance of the services provided by these federal buildings to ordinary Americans, particularly Social Security benefits. He criticized the cost-cutting measures by the Trump administration, stating that the proposed cuts have little actual value in reducing the nation’s debt of $36 trillion. Carson expressed his opposition to what he called “reckless cuts” being implemented by the administration.

Carson’s concerns will be further discussed on the upcoming episode of “All INdiana Politics,” airing on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. on WISH-TV. He stressed that the closure of these federal buildings would have devastating consequences for the people who rely on these services and urged a more thoughtful approach to federal budget cuts.
