Basketball legend Tamika Catchings, a former WNBA superstar, Olympic gold medalist, and beloved Indianapolis entrepreneur, has been announced as a member of the 2025 Class of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. Catchings, known for her contributions on and off the court, was recognized for her unparalleled career, which includes four Olympic gold medals and a WNBA championship. Catchings, who played college basketball at the University of Tennessee under legendary coach Pat Summitt, helped lead the Lady Vols to a national championship in 1998. She was selected third overall in the 2001 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever and went on to have a successful 15-year career with the team. Off the court, Catchings founded the Catch the Stars Foundation in 2004, which empowers underserved youth through literacy, fitness, and mentoring programs. Executive Director of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Brad Willis praised Catchings for being a role model and a leader who has used her platform to make a difference. Catchings, who was caught off-guard by the news of her induction, expressed joy and gratitude for the honor. The remaining Class of 2025 inductees will be announced at a later date.
