The Lafayette Police Department has released video footage from bodycams and surveillance cameras of a fatal shooting incident that occurred in December at a local laundromat. The shooting resulted in the death of Keith Ford and the shooter, Louis McGlothlin, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Two other individuals were injured in the incident and are identified as Renee Martin and Salvador de la Cruz.
During the investigation, it was revealed that McGlothlin had been suffering from severe mental health issues and had been planning the attack for an extended period of time. The shooter had no connection to any of the victims and targeted the laundromat simply because it was in an area he recognized.
The released video also included audio from 911 calls made during the incident. Police Sergeant Shawn Verma stated that the content of recordings found in McGlothlin’s home suggested his deteriorating mental state.
The incident highlights the importance of addressing mental health issues and providing resources to individuals in need of support. The Lafayette community is urged to seek help and support for mental health concerns to prevent future tragedies.
