NewJeans, a K-pop band, announces a break following a legal setback with their record label.

K-pop girl group NewJeans announced a pause on all activities following a court ruling against its members in a dispute with record label Ador. Last year, the band accused Ador of mistreatment, leading them to split and renamed themselves NJZ. Ador, a subsidiary of Hybe, filed an injunction to assert its position as the group’s management agency, which the court ruled in favor of Ador. During a performance in Hong Kong, NewJeans announced their decision to pause activities to respect the court’s decision. Despite this, they remain determined to protect their values and continue expressing themselves. Ador expressed regret over the group’s decision to perform under a new name and unilaterally suspend activities, stating they would work to meet with the artists to discuss the future. The conflict between NewJeans and Ador began in 2024 when Ador replaced the group’s executive producer, leading to the band’s decision to terminate their contracts. NewJeans is known for their pop and R&B music, and their successes include being one of the most recognized groups in pop music and breaking the Guinness World Record for the fastest K-pop act to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify.
