Mother Allegedly Falsely Claimed Child’s Terminal Illness for Financial Gain, Including Make-A-Wish Trip to Disney World

Katherine Jackson, a 41-year-old woman from Indiana, has been accused of pretending that her 6-year-old daughter was terminally ill in order to gain financial benefits and win a Make-A-Wish trip to Disney World. Jackson took her daughter to a hospital in 2022, claiming that the child had an irregular heartbeat and ongoing seizures. However, medical tests revealed that the child was not taking her prescribed medication for seizures and other medical conditions.

Doctors determined that the child was a victim of medical child abuse, as her mother had falsified information and induced unnecessary medical procedures. The child does suffer from a genetic condition, but it is not terminal. Jackson had set up a GoFundMe page claiming that her daughter had a terminal illness, collecting over $1,500 from donors.

This is not the first time Jackson has been involved in fraudulent activities. More than a decade ago, she misrepresented an organization collecting money for a boy with cancer, leading to charges of theft and fraud. She was sentenced to probation and house arrest, but violated the terms of her probation and was sentenced to prison.

In the current case, Jackson has been charged with neglect of a dependent and fraud. The child and her sister have been removed from her care since 2022. Jackson’s actions have caused emotional distress and unnecessary medical procedures for her daughter, who is now receiving appropriate care and support.
