Purdue introduces new graduate program in sport management


Purdue University is set to launch a new Master of Science in Sport Management program in fall 2025, leveraging the university’s strengths in athletics and industry partnerships in Indianapolis. The program will offer students opportunities to connect with industry leaders, gain practical experience in a sports-centric city, and explore diverse topics such as sport marketing, analytics, and leadership. With Indianapolis being known as the Amateur Sports Capital of the World, students will have access to numerous professional sports teams, venues, and organizations for real-world learning opportunities.

The new program, approved by the Purdue Board of Trustees, will be housed in the College of Health and Human Sciences and offer courses led by the College of Science and Department of Computer Science, with a focus on disciplines tailored to the sports industry. The program’s goal is to prepare students to become the next generation of sport leaders and meet the growing demands of the sports and entertainment industry.

Industry leaders such as Mike Bobinski from Purdue Athletics, Gina Lehe from the NCAA, and Patrick Talty from Indiana Sports Corp have expressed support for the program, highlighting its potential to cultivate skilled professionals and develop top sports leadership talent in Indiana. The program aims to expand to 100 students in the coming years and provide hands-on experiential training opportunities through partnerships with organizations like Indiana Sports Corp.
