IMPD Investigates Police Shooting on Southeast Side
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating a police shooting that took place on the city’s southeast side. The incident occurred just after 3 p.m. on Friday in the 1300 block of Riley Place, near the intersection of Prospect Street and South Emerson Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers found an unidentified adult with gunshot wounds inside a residence who was pronounced dead at the scene. An adult male outside the residence was also found with gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
While on the scene, officers were alerted to an armed suspect in the area. Upon arriving at the intersection of Prospect Street and South Emerson Avenue, officers engaged with the suspect, resulting in a police shooting. A firearm was recovered at the scene and the suspect is now in stable condition.
Investigators believe this incident to be isolated and have assured that there is no threat to the community. No officers were injured in the shooting. The area will remain closed for the next few hours as the investigation continues.
