Indiana Joins $39.1M Settlement with Apotex

Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita is urging residents to check their eligibility for compensation as the state joins a $39.1 million settlement with Canadian-based Apotex over allegations of price-fixing in the generic drug market. The settlement, involving 50 states and territories, seeks preliminary approval in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut. This follows a similar $10 million settlement with Heritage Pharmaceuticals for similar claims. Rokita stated that Hoosiers deserve fair pricing for their medications and that illegal schemes that drive up costs will not be tolerated.

The settlements with Apotex and Heritage resolve allegations of conspiracies to manipulate drug prices and restrain trade. Both companies have agreed to cooperate in ongoing multistate litigations against numerous corporate defendants and individual executives. The multi-state coalition, including Indiana, has been pursuing antitrust complaints since 2016 based on evidence from cooperating witnesses and extensive document and phone records databases.

This settlement marks a significant step in addressing antitrust violations in the generic drug industry, with ongoing litigation aimed at ensuring fair competition and compliance with antitrust laws. Residents are encouraged to check their eligibility for compensation as the state works towards a fair and competitive generic drug market.
