IU Indianapolis starts construction on James T. Morris Arena – Latest Updates on Indianapolis News, Indiana Weather, and Traffic

IU Indianapolis has broken ground on the new James T. Morris Arena, a $110 million multiuse athletic center for the university and the community. The facility will include a basketball and volleyball court with 4,500 seats, a multipurpose arena with an auxiliary gym, and a community gathering space. It will also have retractable seating for various events, including college and high school sports. The arena aims to provide IU Indy athletes with legitimate Division I experiences and allow them to compete at a high level.
The facility will also include 16,000 square feet of office space for IU Indianapolis Athletics and select national sport governing bodies. The construction is being funded with $21 million from IU Indianapolis and $89 million from state government appropriations. The arena is expected to be completed by late 2026.
The arena is being built on the IU campus next to the Herron School of Art and Design and the NCAA headquarters. The new arena is named after James T. Morris, an IU alumnus, trustee, and president of Pacers Sports & Entertainment, who passed away at the age of 81. The facility will provide a state-of-the-art space for IU Indianapolis athletes and the community to enjoy a variety of sports and events in a modern and competitive environment.
