Belmont Beach in Indianapolis is gearing up for another season of free community events starting on April 5 with a field day celebration. The beach, historically a place where Black residents could swim during segregation, has been transformed into a community gathering spot by Friends of Belmont Beach. Events at the beach, running from April to October, include yoga sessions, gardening workshops, movie nights, and more. The opening day celebration on Saturday will feature field day games, nature walks, music, and food from 1-3 p.m. at Belmont Beach, 1300 N. White River Parkway Drive. The event is free and open to the public without the need to register. Monthly events include yoga and meditation, gardening workshops, and a Westside Maker’s Market and movie night. The next events include a yoga class on April 12, a gardening workshop on April 19, and a screening of “Madea’s Family Reunion” on April 25. More information on upcoming events can be found on Friends of Belmont Beach’s events page.
