Olivia Miles from Notre Dame decides to transfer, enters portal – Latest news from Indianapolis, Indiana weather and traffic updates

After spending her entire college career at Notre Dame, Olivia Miles has made the decision to enter the transfer portal and forego entering the WNBA draft, according to a source familiar with the situation. The 5-foot-10 guard was a projected lottery pick in the upcoming draft but has opted to join the large number of women’s basketball players in the portal.

Miles had expressed uncertainty about her future plans after Notre Dame’s loss in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, stating that she needed to make some calls and consult with people. The 22-year-old is draft-eligible and has one year of eligibility left after sitting out last season due to a knee injury.

The decision to stay in college instead of turning pro is influenced by the opportunity to earn money through name, image, and likeness deals and a potentially higher salary as a result of the new WNBA collective bargaining agreement. Miles averaged 15.4 points, 5.8 assists, and 5.6 rebounds per game this season and expressed a love for college but a feeling of having outgrown it.

The quick turnaround from college to the WNBA season starting on May 16 was not the only consideration in Miles’ decision, as she emphasized trusting herself to make the right choice. She will be a highly sought-after player in the portal as teams look to bolster their rosters for the upcoming season.
