Pink Out for Breast Cancer Awareness at the Indiana Statehouse

The Indiana Statehouse hosted its inaugural “Pink Out” event, organized by a Hoosier breast cancer advocacy group to raise awareness about the disease that will affect over 6,000 people in the state this year. Heather Pirowski, the founder of the group, emphasized the urgency of the issue by stating that over 900 Hoosiers will die from breast cancer in 2021, equivalent to the entire population of Cicero. Lawmakers at the event spoke on the importance of funding breast cancer research and implementing policies to save lives. A breast cancer research bill has passed the House health committee but awaits inclusion in the budget. Attendees were encouraged to use a pink phone booth set up at the event to contact legislators and advocate for action on breast cancer issues. The event brought together survivors, advocates, researchers, and lawmakers, highlighting the importance of collaboration in addressing the impact of breast cancer on Hoosier lives.
