Thousands dead and destruction unveiled in Myanmar as death toll surpasses 2,700

A 63-year-old woman was found alive after being trapped for over 90 hours in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake in Myanmar’s capital, Naypyitaw. Many monks are also believed to be trapped under rubble after the quake caused monasteries to collapse in the Buddhist-majority country. Rescue efforts are ongoing in Bangkok, Thailand, where the quake caused high-rises to sway and a 30-story building under construction to collapse. At least 20 people have died in Bangkok, with most casualties occurring at the collapsed building site where rescuers are using heavy machinery to move cement slabs in order to rescue trapped workers. The situation remains dire as rescue workers continue their efforts to save those who are still trapped in the rubble.
