Police Investigate Train Derailment in Southeast Part of the City


The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating a train derailment that occurred on the city’s southeast side. The incident took place near the intersection of Southeastern Avenue and South Sherman Drive. Authorities are urging the community to avoid the area as cleanup crews work to clear the scene. Fortunately, there is no public safety threat believed to be associated with the derailment, and investigators have stated that it is not a hazmat situation. The only cargo that fell from the train cars was corn starch. Southeastern Avenue is currently closed between South Sherman Drive and South Rural Street while officials investigate the cause of the derailment. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
