Indianapolis IU Campus Celebrates Groundbreaking of James T. Morris Arena – Updates on Indianapolis News, Indiana Weather, and Traffic

Indiana University Indianapolis celebrated the groundbreaking of the new James T. Morris Arena, a $110 million multiuse athletic center that will benefit both the university and the community. The facility will include a basketball and volleyball court with 4,500 seats, a multipurpose arena with an auxiliary gym, and a community gathering space. The retractable seating will cater to college events, high school sports, and recreational activities.

IU Indy aims to provide its athletes with legitimate Division I experiences, and the new arena will allow them to compete on par with other Horizon League teams. The facility will also include 16,000 square feet of office space for IU Indianapolis Athletics and select national sport governing bodies, such as USA Track and Field.

Funded by a combination of $21 million from IU Indianapolis and $89 million from state government appropriations, the arena is set to be completed by late 2026. Situated on the IU campus near the Herron School of Art and Design and the NCAA headquarters, the arena will be a significant addition to the university’s athletic facilities.

James T. Morris, an IU alumnus and trustee, as well as the former president of Pacers Sports & Entertainment, is the namesake of the new arena. His legacy will live on through this state-of-the-art facility that will benefit student-athletes and the Indianapolis community for years to come.
