A doctor from Dover, Massachusetts, called Ingolf Tuerk, has been found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the death of his wife, Kathleen McLean, whom he is accused of strangling and dumping in a pond. Tuerk was also charged with first-degree murder, but the jury found him guilty of the lesser charge. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 16. McLean’s family feels that she is not getting justice and that Tuerk got away with murder. The defense argued that the killing was not premeditated but a reaction to McLean’s plan to gain control of Tuerk’s money and assets. Prosecutors argued that Tuerk disposed of McLean’s body “like a piece of trash” and was worried about losing his money and house. Tuerk admitted to police what he had done but claimed in court that his actions were not premeditated. The couple met on an online dating app, got married in Las Vegas, and lived together in Dover with children from different marriages. Tuerk was forced to move out after McLean got a restraining order but they reconciled during the pandemic. The incident occurred during a night of drinking when Tuerk said McLean hit him in the head with a glass and he blacked out, leading to him strangling her. Originally from East Germany, Tuerk recounted to the jury how he put his wife’s body in a pond after the fight and tried to weigh her down with rocks. The trial started on March 27 in Norfolk Superior Court.
