A tragic accident occurred in Union Township on Saturday morning when a person was hit by a train. The incident took place at around 6:25 a.m. on Duesner Road and Zimmerman Road. The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office reported that the pedestrian was walking on the train tracks when a CSX train struck them. Due to flooding in the area, responders had difficulty reaching the scene. The person was pronounced dead at the scene, and their identity has not been released yet. The Perry Township Fire Department provided assistance by allowing deputies to use their boats to access the area for investigation. This unfortunate accident serves as a reminder of the dangers of walking on or near train tracks, especially in hazardous conditions.
