Indianapolis Public Schools will be transitioning to e-learning on Monday as a result of a high number of teacher absences. This decision comes after other school districts in Indiana, including Pike Township Schools and Monroe County Community School Corp, have also implemented e-learning days due to the same issue. The Indiana State Teachers Association has organized a Day of Action at the Statehouse on Monday to address concerns during the ongoing legislative session.
During the e-learning day, students at Indianapolis Public Schools will be expected to work independently on assignments that will be due on April 21. Families will receive communication from the schools regarding their students’ assignments. Since the district has already used all allowed asynchronous days for the year, an extra in-person day will be added to the school calendar to ensure that the Indiana Department of Education’s requirement of 180 days of instruction is met. As a result, the last day of school for students will be moved to May 23, and for staff, it will be May 27.
