Nvidia announces intention to produce AI chips in the United States

Nvidia is planning to produce AI supercomputer chips entirely in the U.S. for the first time, with manufacturing space in Phoenix, Arizona and supercomputer plants in Houston and Dallas. The Blackwell chips are already in production at TSMC’s Phoenix chip plants. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that this move will help to meet the growing demand for AI chips and supercomputers, strengthen the supply chain, and boost resiliency. This announcement follows Nvidia’s plan to invest hundreds of billions of dollars into AI infrastructure in the U.S. over the next four years.

This rollout comes amid conflicting messages from Washington regarding the semiconductor supply chain. President Trump has called to repeal the CHIPS Act, while Congressional Republicans have not shown interest in doing so. Trump also indicated that new tariffs on imported chips are forthcoming. Nvidia reportedly made a commitment to U.S. investment at a dinner hosted by Trump at Mar-a-Lago, resulting in the White House reversing a plan to block U.S. chipmakers from selling Nvidia’s H20 AI chips to China. This shift towards domestic manufacturing marks a significant development in the semiconductor industry in the U.S., as major players like Nvidia, Foxconn, and TSMC invest in American infrastructure.
