Man taken into custody following Texas high school shooting that left 4 injured

Four students were injured, three with gunshot wounds, at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas. The victims were between 15 and 18 years old, with injuries ranging from serious to non-life-threatening. The gunman was identified but initially remained at large before being arrested and taken into custody.

Students described hearing seven gunshots and running for safety. The school had experienced a previous shooting incident in a classroom the year before. Dallas ISD officials expressed frustration with the recurring gun violence in schools, calling the situation “unthinkable” and all too familiar.

The gun did not enter the school building during the regular security check when students pass through metal detectors. District officials did not provide details on how the gun was brought into the building or what led up to the shooting.

Classes were canceled for the remainder of the week at Wilmer-Hutchins High School, and counselors were made available to students and staff dealing with the aftermath of the shooting. The investigation into the incident was ongoing, with authorities working to determine the motive and circumstances of the shooting.
