Lawsuit alleges federal government failed to disclose information on E. coli outbreak in lettuce causing harm to 8 individuals in Indiana – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic

A series of lawsuits have been filed against California-based Taylor Farms following an E. coli outbreak linked to romaine lettuce that affected 89 people across 15 states, including eight individuals in Indiana. The lawsuits represent those who suffered severe complications from E. coli infection, including hospitalizations, cases of kidney failure, and one death. Two lawsuits were filed in federal court in Indianapolis, with another filed in St. Louis. One of the lawsuits was filed by a family in Avon, Indiana, after their 10-year-old son nearly died from E. coli. The lawsuits seek compensation for medical expenses and other losses.

The law firm behind the lawsuits, specializing in foodborne illness cases, claims that the federal government closed its investigation into the outbreak without informing the public of its findings. The outbreak was traced back to Taylor Farms’ romaine lettuce, but the specific details of the supply chain were redacted in the investigation documents. Despite this, the CDC and FDA officially closed the investigation on Feb. 5.

Taylor Farms has denied being the source of the E. coli outbreaks and stated that they found no contamination in their product testing. The law firm is pushing for accountability in the outbreak and seeking justice for those affected.
