New Crackdown Targets Indiana’s Problematic Bars – Latest Updates on Indianapolis News, Weather, and Traffic in Indiana

Governor Mike Braun of Indiana has announced a new initiative to crack down on “nuisance bars” in the state. Working together with Indiana State Police and the Alcohol & Tobacco Commission’s Excise Police, the effort aims to address public safety concerns around bars and nightclubs that attract criminal activity over the next four years. There has been a 34% increase in public nuisance violations issued by the Indiana State Excise Police since 2019, including incidents such as shootings, stabbings, and drug-related activity.

Governor Braun emphasized the serious threat that “nuisance bars” pose to public safety, describing them as hubs for crime, drugs, and violence that make communities more dangerous and lower nearby property values. The Alcohol & Tobacco Commission plans to hire a new Excise Superintendent who will collaborate with the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police and the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association to develop new strategies to work with local law enforcement.

This crackdown on “nuisance bars” is a proactive step towards making Indiana communities safer and reducing criminal activity associated with these establishments. By increasing collaboration between state and local law enforcement agencies, Governor Braun’s initiative aims to create a safer environment for residents and improve the overall well-being of Indiana neighborhoods.
