Individuals with prediabetes can significantly reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by following a digital lifestyle programme, according to recent research. A study found that those with prediabetes who engaged in an online behavioural intervention were 46% less likely to develop type 2 diabetes over the next 10 years compared to those not on a digital programme. Type 2 diabetes is linked to various other health issues, such as neuropathy and cardiovascular disease, making prevention crucial.
In the US, more than a third of middle-aged and older adults have prediabetes, highlighting the importance of effective prevention strategies. The study involved over 130,000 adults, with a focus on participants with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes. Those with prediabetes who followed the digital lifestyle programme had a significantly lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes and showed improvements in cholesterol levels.
