Severe Thunderstorms Expected This Afternoon in Central Indiana
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Residents are urged to remain weather alert this Tuesday as strong thunderstorms are forecasted to develop later in the afternoon. Storm Track 8 Meteorologist Tara Hastings warns that while all severe weather types are possible, the primary concerns include strong winds and heavy rain.
As of 11:55 a.m., a severe thunderstorm is advancing over Franklin, Flat Rock, Trafalgar, and other regions in southern Johnson County and Shelby County, prompting a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 12:45 p.m. Wind gusts of up to 60 mph may cause damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
By 11:45 a.m., forecasts indicated that areas in Marion, Johnson, Morgan, and Shelby counties could experience gusts reaching 70 mph along with potential pea-sized hail.
Additionally, a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for parts of Marion, Johnson, Morgan, and Shelby counties, affecting areas such as Greenwood, Beech Grove, Southport, Mooresville, Indianapolis, Franklin, and Martinsville until 12:15 p.m. Residents in these areas should prepare for possible tree limb damage and hazards from unsecured objects due to the expected gusty winds.
