Bob’s House for Dogs: Reviving Second Chances for Senior Pups

Press Release: Bob’s House for Dogs Provides Lifeline for Senior Canines

ELEVA, WI — Since its establishment in 2009, Bob’s House for Dogs has transformed the lives of countless senior and special-needs dogs, giving them a chance at a loving home. Located in the Chippewa Valley, this innovative nonprofit was inspired by a personal tragedy experienced by co-founder Amy Quella, who lost her dog, Bob, after a tragic mishap. This heart-wrenching event propelled Quella and her husband to commit to aiding shelter dogs.

Designed to resemble a home rather than a traditional shelter, Bob’s House defies the norm by providing a nurturing environment for dogs, especially those aged nine and older or with medical issues. These dogs often come from neglectful circumstances, such as elderly owners moving into care facilities or passing away, and they frequently require medical attention that deters adoptive families.

“Many of our dogs need dental surgery and vet care, which are viewed as obstacles to adoption,” Quella explained. Yet, she emphasizes the unique appeal of senior dogs to the right adopters—those who seek companionship without the demanding energy of a puppy.

In addition to senior dogs, Bob’s House also rescues survivors from puppy mills, which are notorious for their cruel treatment of animals. These dogs often require extensive care and rehabilitation before they can be adopted. Quella notes the transformative impact of younger dogs on their older counterparts, fostering joy and engagement in both groups.

With on-site certified veterinary technicians, Bob’s House prioritizes the health and emotional well-being of every dog. Many families, despite knowing they may only have a few years with a senior dog, return to adopt again, driven by the joy these animals bring.

“Word spreads about the loving care here, and senior dogs really make a difference,” Quella said, highlighting the profound bond between the dogs and their new families.
