K-9 Incident Leaves Deputy Injured; Dog Out of Service
SCOTTSBURG, Ind. (WISH) — A Scott County Sheriff’s Office K-9, named Zeus, has been placed out of service following a troubling incident on Friday morning. While Deputy Zachary Brown was handling Zeus, the dog unexpectedly turned aggressive, resulting in an attack that left Brown with bites and scratches.
Immediately after the incident, Deputy Brown was taken to Norton’s Hospital for treatment and has since been released. The K-9 was subsequently subdued and will undergo a 10-day quarantine period. A veterinarian is scheduled to examine Zeus to investigate potential health issues that may have contributed to his sudden aggression.
Sheriff Jerry Goodin has made the decision to keep Zeus out of service while further information is gathered regarding the circumstances surrounding the attack. The incident raises concerns about the behavior of working dogs and the potential for unforeseen reactions.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office is committed to ensuring the safety of its deputies and the community, and further evaluations of Zeus will be critical in determining his future. As details emerge, the department will provide updates on the investigation and any necessary follow-up actions.
